Ellie Lin
Ellie Lin, Artistic Director/Conductor of the Great Land Choral Society and The Echo Singers, is also Artistic Director of the Dallas Symphony Children’s Chorus (DSCC) and a faculty member at Texas Music Conservatory. At the DSCC, Lin oversees its artistic and administrative staff, and directs its choruses for performances in stand-alone concerts, community appearances, concert tours, and participations in Dallas Symphony Orchestra concerts. With the Great Land Choral Society, she leads regular community concerts as well as performances abroad.
Throughout the years, Lin’s choirs have given concert performances in Austria, Germany, China, Taiwan, Argentina, Canada, and in almost every state in the United States, often at prestigious concert halls such as National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing and Musikverein (Golden Hall) in Vienna.
With the world-renowned Texas Boys Choir (TBC), she served as its Interim Artistic Director, Associate Artistic Director, Conductor, Pianist, and Algebra teacher at various times since 1991. With TBC, Lin has performed before several US presidents, in several CD recordings, and on national radio stations and TV programs. Furthermore, while Lin was Associate Artistic Director and Pianist, TBC was invited to perform at the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Conference in 2013 and 2017.
In 2017, Lin was nominated on the preliminary ballot for the 60th Grammy Award for Producer of the Year, along with the Texas Boys Choir’s 70th Year CD for the Album of the Year and Best Choral Performance awards.
Other positions held include High School Choir Director of High Point Academy in Fort Worth, Director of the Academy Chorale at Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts, Conductor of Pinnacle Choristers, Director of Southwest Christian School High School Choir, Artistic Director/Conductor of Good Earth Singers, Choir Director at Arlington Chinese Church, and Piano Instructor at University of Charleston in West Virginia.
Born in Taiwan, Lin grew up in Pleasantville, New York. She studied Choral Conducting with Donald Neuen at the Eastman School of Music, where she received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music education and choral conducting, with a concentration in piano.
In addition to conducting, Lin is in demand as a piano teacher, collaborative pianist, and choral clinician. She also enjoys her work as a certified Chinese interpreter and translator. Her professional affiliations include: American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Texas Choral Directors Association (TCDA), and National Music Teachers Association (NMTA).
刘哲苑女士现为达拉斯交响乐团少年合唱团 (Dallas Symphony Children’s Chorus) 艺术总监,达拉斯回声歌手艺术总监兼指挥,及德州音乐学院 (Texas Music Conservatory) 钢琴教师。她生于台北市,在光仁小学音乐班毕业后,随父母移居美国。其后在纽约伊士曼音乐学院随名师Donald Neuen教授专攻合唱指挥及音乐教育,并兼修钢琴,取得学士及双硕士学位。
她曾担任德州男童合唱团(Texas Boys Choir) 艺术总监、指挥及钢琴教师,福和市High Point Academy 高中合唱团指挥,福和市Pinnacle School艺术学院首席指挥,福和市Southwest Christian School高中合唱团指挥,雅灵顿华人教会诗班指挥及雅灵顿大地合唱团音乐总监暨指挥,並带领他们走遍美国各地,更远赴南美、欧洲多国及中国演出。
刘女士就任神州合唱团及大地合唱团音乐总监暨指挥以来, 多次带领两团到中国大陆和台湾演出:2004年, 大地合唱团在福州和厦门演出;2006年,大地合唱团在北京、天津和台北演出;2008年,神州合唱团在上海及北京和中国歌剧舞剧院管弦乐团一起盛大演出『中国心,中华情』中美华人合唱音乐会; 2010年, 神州合唱团在台北演出;2012年,神州合唱团在维也纳金色大厅参加了中国合唱协会协办的『唱响五洲,元宵夜合唱音乐会』;2013年神州合唱团赴福州参加“以歌会友—华人之声”合唱音乐会;2014年,神州合唱团在丹佛参加了中国侨联『亲情中华』的演出;2015年,神州合唱团为纪念抗战胜利70周年演出了百人『黄河大合唱』。2018年8月,神州合唱团赴德国及捷克,参加了汉堡『中国时代』活动及演出了一场音乐会。今年9月指挥神州合唱团与数个本地华人社区合唱团合办了庆祝抗战胜利80周年音乐会,并于10月受邀在台湾中原大学成功举办了『乐曲悠扬』音乐会。
2017年10月,刘女士被初选提名为格莱美年度最佳制作人,同时德州男童合唱团的70th Anniversary CD 则被初选提名为年度最佳CD及合唱表演。
除了指挥以外,刘女士常为独唱、合唱、器乐独奏在音乐会上和比赛中担任钢琴伴奏。刘女士也热爱借着专业翻译去帮助社会上各种有需要的人。无论是音乐或翻译,她都盼望能用上帝所给的恩赐来影响他人的生命。
